rFactor1 Santander British Grand Prix - Silverstone - Comment

It was an exciting race in Silverstone for rFactor1 circus. The home race of most teams showed the skills of some drivers, but also the lack of brain of some others.
In qualify, there was a great pole for the "deb" of Red Bull Ahmet Kesgin form Turkey, due of a really low amount of fuel in the tank. Baroni was second, third place for Luty (really bad behaviour for him during this race), Cabiddu (Monaco winner) 4th. Corigliano was really in troubles with his BMW and started in 15th.

Mario Nieto is back in points, after a great battle with his friend Cardozo.

At the green light, all drivers left the grid, Kesgin leading, with Giammy Serra who had overtake Zingalus in first corner. In the center of the group, at Becketts, lot of contacts happened: Giaky Serra hit Greg and lost his nose, there was a contact between Iudicello and Corigliano, and in Chapel Wariof destroyed his car hitting Giaky Serra, who was coming back to the track after the previous accident.
But it's not over: at corner eight Cardozo, finally really fast, overtake Zingalus for 5th place. At The Bridge, Bernard finished his fuel and was overwhelm by Corigiano: the McLaren driver completely lost his rear tire ad was forced to retire.
At the end of first lap, pitstops for: Kesgin, Iudicello, Giaky Serra and Wariof (retire for him).

Second lap, Giaky Serra and Antonio Iudicello waere forced to carry a Stop&Go for speeding in pits.
Fourth lap, Nieto spun off at first corner, back in track with no damages in 11th position. Kesgin started his abominable show, overtaking Smith after an heavy contact in Stowe.

Zingalus was 7th at the end of first lap, but he climbed up the standing taking an awesome second position.

Fifth lap, while Baroni is leading in front of Luty, Cabiddu spun off at Luffield losing in third position, taken by GM Serra.
One lap later, pitstops for Cardozo (was 6th) and Kesgin (second pit for him). Corigliano, leader of World Championship, ended his bad race hitting the wall just outside Chapel.
Eighth lap, Monaco's winner Cabiddu retired for an electric failure.

At tenth lap, pitstops dance finally started: we had Greg, Burdisso (also a Stop&Go for him for Speeding in Pitlane), Giammy Serra, Smith, Baroni, Nieto, Zingalus, Kesgin, Luty (hit the wall pitting out), Vacca, Iudicello and Giaky Serra.
Pitstop was really important for Zingalus in 15th lap: he made his pit two laps after Giammy Serra and pitted in front of him for one second, taking second place.
Also in fifteenth lap, there was the final retire for Luty that was penalized after an incredible series of cuts in every lap.

Seventeenth lap, great overtake of Nieto on Cardozo for 5th place.
One lap later, Kesgin broke his nose hitting Nieto for four times in two corners. His behaviour had been really unacceptable and he received ten seconds of penalty at the end of the race, plus the starting from last position in German GP. In the same lap, Cardozo took again 5th place overtaking Nieto with Brawn.

This is what drivers calls a great race: lot of fights and a good 5th place for Cardozo and his Red Bull.

Great win at the end for Baroni, who took again the leadership of the standings, important second place for a never subdued Zingalus and again a third place for the "solid" Giammy Serra and his Toro Rosso.

SUMMARY OF PENALTIES:
- Ahmet Kesgin, the whole the race pushing other drivers to overtake them, bad behaviour in track - +10secs on his race time, starts from last in Germany, official "yellow card" - at first mistake he's going to be DSQ for one race.
- Tomas Luty, the wole race hitting other drivers, cutting corners, driving out of the track, cutting lines, etc. - DSQ in Germany.
- Giacomo Serra, official warning. He has to be more careful coming back in track after an accident.
- Davide Corigliano, above all in first lap was driving too much agressive, under probation.

rFactor1 Santander British Grand Prix - Silverstone - Official Results

Massive penalties for Kesgin and Luty. They showed really bad behaviour, causing lots of accidents, cutting corners more than once.
Kesgin hit 4 times during 18th lap Mario Nieto for example. So, the turkish driver suffers 10 sec of penalty and will start from last position in German GP.
Luty, considering was racing his 4th gap, is going to be DSQ for German Grand Prix.
We hope everyone now ends to race without his brain ON.

Zingalus is in renewal talks with Ferrari.
After a good start of the season (excluding the episodes of DSQ) Ferrari is in talks with Zingalus for a contract extension in next season. Stefano Domenicali admits the contact with the manager of Zingalus, hoping the deal is made in a month. Of course, also Zingalus is excited for the chance to renewal with Ferrari, but would like to obtain better economic terms.
Alex Zingalus won in Malaysia this season.

President John Howett is satisfied with Toyota.
The Toyota President, John Howett, is satisfied with the balance of the first half of the season. "We are doing a good job - says Howett - we have two really good drivers and the team is improving step by step. Iudicello finished in top eight six times in six races, while Vacca ended in points three of six: is a great result for us". At the question connected with the future he says: "We dont know what's the future for Toyota F1 Team at the moment". Might just be the Toyota then to leave the circus next season?
Toyota's President John Howett is quite happy for the first half of the season.

Mario Nieto talks with rF1 Press
We met Mario Nieto in the Brawn Headquarters, during a break from the driving simulator test. He told us: "After 2nd place in Australia it's been hard to get a good position in the grid, I've had accidents that aren't my fault and some that were my fault as it always happens in races. It's been an exciting season until now even tho I haven't been able to be at all races because of personal stuff but I am still fighting to get good results as I did in Melbourne, I've noticed that the level of driving from the other drivers has increased extremely, and thats good because it makes the league more competitive. I'm so excited about the races to come like Spa, Turkey, Silverstone, Brazil, its gonna be awesome and I'll give my best to get more podiums on this season." Good Luck Mario!
Mario Nieto, nine points in six races.

2010, a full grid!
The recent confirmation of grid enlargement, suggest us the chance to have a huge number of drivers in track for 2010 season. Last season we saw a big number of drivers was in 1994. The new three teams (Manor, Campos and USF1) already started their works to be ready for final season tests in November and December. We are sure that a battle between 26 cars is going to be amazing!
Are we going to have a bigger grid in 2010 season?

Report cards and assessments - by AX89

Nicola Bianchi is still in troubles: he never ended a race.
Nicola Bianchi - 2
He didn't had a qualify time, and also he didn't joined tests. On race, he started 12th and lost almost immediately four positions, moving last on the back. He did 63 contacts, including the accident that costed him the retirment before ending first lap. Worst driver of this race.

Gianpiero Baroni - 4
He managed the second place on start grid, but he had problems with his connection, costed him to have minor lags, and to hit a car in front of him, hitting later as consequence the wall, and retiring from the race. Worst race for his career, he probably could had the possibility to avoid that accident and to race normally with great possibilities.

Juan Manuel Cardozo - 3
He also didn't a qualify time, but started immediately behind the last pilot with a time scored. He did only 4 laps before retiring for a big damage to suspensions. On those laps, he didn't proved to be enough strong, losing four positions on the first lap and returning to the pit, recovering one position only for piddu's retirement. Bad race for him.

Tomas Luty - 3
This driver hadn't a qualify time, and he was the last at start. He recovered well nine positions on the first 2 laps, but he lost again six positions on the following 2 laps because of accidents. He pitted on every lap of race, except lap 1 and lap 5. A race to forget for him: with only 6 laps on track, he didn't repeated his tests times, showing poor performances.

Luc Bernard - 5
Also no qualify time for him: starting on 13th position, he recovered several positions even if he pitted on first lap, moving on 6th place until lap 3. He lost one position after that lap, but recovered it later, only for a single lap: an accident ended his race. Generally, he managed a good race with a high constancy, proving to be able to end the race with points.

Giaki Serra - 5
Another bad weekend for this driver. He started on 7th place, recovering three positions during first 3 laps, but losing one during following laps. He managed a well race until lap nine when he had a great number of contacts, costing him to enter the pits for 2 laps sequentially. At lap 10, he did the last mistake that costed the retirement. Another no-point race for him.

Adam Smith - 4
A crazy drive style, that allowed him to recover, even if starting in 8th, three positions on the first lap, causing contacts with more than a single driver. Later on race he dropped down to the 11th place, pitting on lap 2, but he recovered again five positions. A suspensions damage marked his retirement at lap 12, during which he showed a great force mixed to a bad drivestyle: a very strange guy.

Giuseppe Greg - 5
Starting on 14th position by a penalty, he slowly climbed up to the 9th place, even if stopped by 3 pit stops, but at that point, the race ended for him, on lap 12. He showed surely a sort of constancy, but not enough to end race safely, thanks also for the retirement of other pilots. An unclear race for him, with lot of average results.

Zingalus was the best driver of the race for the press.

Mario Wariof - 4
A very strange race for this driver. He started on 6th place, climbing up to the third place in only 2 laps. He maintained that place for 5 laps, prior to fall down because of several accidents, caused even by his damaged steering wheel, that forced him to go in the pits for 6 times. He recovered some positions, until the end of race, but he ended 8th with a delay of 5 laps from the first. Bad weekend for him.

Daniele Vacca - 6
He started on 10th place. He moved to the 5th place during first 2 laps, but he rolled back almost last in the following lap. He recovered slowly five positions, moving on 7th place from the middle of the race onward, until the end. Finally, some point for that pilot, but from a G25 user, we expect more than this "lucky but poor" performance, even if he was constant.

Max Burdisso - 8
He qualified 9th in the grid. He didn't done a good qualify time, but his race was pretty good: on start he defended his position, but an accident forced him to pit at lap 2, losing some positions. His constancy allowed him to drive with a very small amount of contacts with barriers, moving up to the 6th place, even if he was one of the slowest drivers of the day. Nice race for this guy.

Antonio Iudicello - 6
The curse of the 5th place stuck still continue on this race for him. A great number of contacts with barriers ruined a little his day. He proved to be competitive during weekend and tests, even if scored a bad time on qualify, but he did a lot of little mistakes that costed him to lose time on the first half of race. He started and finished 5th, but he wasn't constant on lap times. Not a good work from this driver.

Alex Zingalus - 9
He started 15th on the grid for the penalty. He had a great race, even if he was 4th at the end: he did a very well race, with high performance per lap, small amount of contacts, good strategy. Only a little disappoint for tyres, which costed him to lose the opportunity to fight for a place on the podium. Generally, the best driver of the race.

Giammy Serra - 9
A great race day for this driver. He started on 4th position, but dropped down to the 8th position for a puncture, pitting on lap 2. Immediately, he choosed to change strategy for his race, refueling enough to end the race. Step-by-step, he recovered a great amount of positions, pushing himself to the 2nd place, lost at only 3 laps from the end, because of the tyre fatigue. Great performance from him, he gained a very deserved third place on podium today, the 2nd best driver of the race.

Davide Corigliano - 7
Not a good race for him: he realized the pole position and the fastest lap on Monaco, but his strategy didn't paid off. Running on soft tyres gave him an advantage at the first laps, but his lead was compromised at lap 13, when he pitted also for repairing some damages. He lost three positions, and his luck to finish on 2nd place was aided by Giammy's weak tyres, that prevented at the same time Alex to overtake him (Giammy), slowing both of them, and helping Corigliazzu to overtake both Alex and Giammy in 2 laps: not exactly what we expected today.

Simone Cabiddu - 8
A deserved podium for him: the great efforts showed by him today had been the prove of that. He gained the 2nd place immediately before suppapiddu's retirement. His consistency and constancy had been paid off, with a slight help from the Corigliazzu's mistakes and from the delayed drivers. Not an easy job, but his work has produced his fortune and his victory today.

rFactor1 Monaco Grand Prix - Montecarlo - Race comment

After Spanish Grand Prix, rFactor1 finally arrives in the most peculiar track the history of F1, the street circuit of Monte Carlo. Qualify were really exciting, with the pole position for Corigliano, second place for Baroni, third for Cabiddu and fourth for GM Serra. Zingalus and Greg started last because of the penalties received in the previous race.

Force India an half lap before the accident of Baroni. Cabiddu still don't know he's going to win an awesome race.

Turns off the red lights, Baroni started a little bit slowly and Cabiddu joins him, but didnt attack at first corner. Good start for Zingalus and Giaky Serra, as always. Accident and retire for Bianchi, at the end of the lap pitstops for Iudicello, Greg, Bernard and Cardozo.
Lap two, one of the most important moments of the race: Baroni made a mistake and crashed at Sainte-Devote: Cabiddu and GM Serra were chasing and the Toro Rosso driver hit Baroni's nose, puncturing his right front tire and pitting at the end of this lap. The race in the back is hard and there were pits for Luty, Greg and Burdisso.
In the following two laps, pits for Vacca (two times), Luty (two times) and Greg (third stop in total).

GM Serra pitted at second lap, but climbed up the standing, closing with a great 3rd position.

Fifth lap, quite bad crash for Cardozo at Rascasse and retire for him.
One lap later, Luty retired for an accident at Nouvelle chicane.
Eight lap, Bernard retires because of an hard contact with the outer wall. His McLaren was badly damaged. In the same lap, Wariof started his pitstop dance: three in the following three laps (one for a drive throught).
Lap ten, battle for 4th position in Toro Rosso's family: GM overtook Giaky, who hit the wall at Rascasse: immediate pitstop for him. Unlucky, Giaky Serra speede in pit lane and was constrict to pit again one lap later for a "Drive throught".
Only one lap later, Giaky Serra ended his race hitting Portier's wall.

Best season result for Burdisso: consistent race and 6th place for him and his Williams.

Lap 13, Corigliano lapped Smith, but the british driver completely missed Mirabeau's braking, hitting the leader. McLaren's driver retired and will lose 10 pos in Great Britain GP start. Corigliano was lucky enough to do that would stop in that space, even though he was forced to make two thirds of a turn without the front wing. This was a very chaotic lap: we had the worst accident of the race, Greg (maybe for a suspension failure) crashed really hard with the wall at "Piscine 1",
but in hospital there was confirmation of his excellent condition and lack of consequences.
In three following laps, pits for Corigliano, Cabiddu, Iudicello, Zingalus and Burdisso. DT again for Wariof.
From 15th to 24th we had a quite race, with GM Serra in troubles with his tires (26 laps with same tires set at the end) trying to resist the recovery of Zingalus and Corigliano.

Spectator are in raptures during Cabiddu's last lap.

Lap 22, Corigliano overtook Zingalus at "Piscine".
Lap 24, finally GM Serra is forced to surrender: Corigliano found a little space in Portier, attacking at "Nouvelle Chicane" and overtaking Toro Rosso driver after an awesome fight under the Tunnel.
In last three laps, Sburroso administer his own advantage, while Zingalus tried with no success to overtake GM Serra.
With this result, Corigliano took the top of the standing, and Cabiddu jumped closer to Baroni. GM Serra is still third.

Flash News #02

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix work in progress
The new Abu Dhabi track, situated in United Emirates, is still work in progress. Workers are working very hard so that the track is ready for the final act of the season in November. The Abu Dhabi circuit will take place in Yas Marina, in the middle of port District. The main sponsor of the event will be Etihad Airways and the contract with rF1 will be valid until 2016.

Giammy Serra happy for the first part of the season
The italian driver Giammy Serra, is quite happy about Toro Rosso's performances in first five rF1 GPs. "We worked hard since the first test in Barcelona in January - said the 23-years-old - and we just want to improve step by step. Our next target is to give some worries to Corigliano e Baroni for high place in podium". Toro Rosso is still waiting for other car updates which will be available in two races.

One pole position and three podiums for Giammy Serra in this season.

Wariof and Williams: deal?
It is no secret that the continued good performance shown by Mario Wariof have attracted the attention of several teams of the circus. It seems that Linus Dita, manager of the Italian driver, has met at the headquarters of the Williams in Grove the owners Frank Williams and Patrick Head. It seems that the agreement which is being discussed has a duration of two years, especially if Philips would continue to sponsor the British team. Last italian driver for Williams had been Alex Zanardi in 1999.

Headquarters of Williams F1 Team in Grove (UK).

Martin Whitmarsh: "We must improve"
Martin Whitmarsh is not enough satisfied with the performance of his team in this first part of the championship. Six points are small enough for those usually accustomed to fighting for the podium. 'It is true that we have two new drivers, and that the well-deserved rest of Ron has led to an internal reshuffle, but we can not settle and we should improve soon" said McLaren's GM. Starting at Monaco McLaren hopes to get both cars in the points.

Brawn Grand Prix looks around
We are only a third of the season, but it seems that Brawn is looking for a new driver for the 2010 season. The bosses of the team, under pressure especially of the sponsor Virgin Group Ltd, are apparently looking for a British driver, home country of the sponsor.

Ross Brawn is looking for a british driver in 2010.

Actually british drivers in the circus are Adam Smith (McLaren) and Philip Oakley (which will debut in Monaco or in the home race at Silverstone). However, the drivers of Brawn can not be too worried: Nieto can count on the amazing second place caught in Australia, while Greg (episode of disqualification in part) has a great constancy of results that makes it attractive to many teams.
